In Acts 4:1–22, Peter and John are brought before the religious leaders after the healing of the lame man. Questioned about the authority behind the miracle, Peter boldly proclaims that salvation is found in Jesus Christ. Even when commanded to stop speaking and teaching in the name of Jesus, Peter and John refuse to remain silent: “For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
